Mastering Your Wash & Go!
Wash and Go's can be a hit or miss for some of our curl gemz. Though it may sound easy I know you're probably wondering why you still haven't mastered this method yet. Chances are you're more focused on the products doing the work rather than working on mastering the actual technique with the right products.
When it comes down to natural hairstyles, technique has a major impact on your results .Don't fret, follow these tips to see how you can start mastering your wash and go's in no time.
Wash and Deep Condition
Before diving into the stylers be sure to start on a clean foundation. Shampoo, deep condition, and detangle your hair every 7 to 10 days when rocking your natural hair. Styling on clean and conditioned hair prevents product build up and moisture overload.
Apply Products on Wet Hair
Applying your Leave in Conditioner and stylers (hair creams gels etc.) on dripping wet hair improves your results. This allows you to use less product and also prevents the products from weighting down your hair. When you feel your hair getting dry while styling, use your spray bottle to add more. Then distribute the products evenly onto your hair. Experiment and observe which layering technique works best for your hair. The most common ones are LOC, LCO, or LC.
Let's Talk Technique
If you're looking to achieve a frizz free, defined wash and go, technique matters! For wash and go styling the best methods are rake and smooth, shingling, or finger coils. All three methods may give you a different curl pattern depending on your hair type. After applying your leave in conditioner, in small sections apply a dime sized amount of your hair cream and/or gel, detangle, rake and smoothen out your curls. Practice the styling techniques listed that works for your hair.
Please keep in mind a Leave in Conditioner is not a styler. Leave in conditioners should be paired with a styler such as our Moisturizing Hair Cream ,a hair gel, or mousse to provide a soft to medium hold. Stylers are always applied last.
Drying
Did you know your hair is at its weakest state when its wet? For this and other reason heat drying after styling your hair is highly recommended to achieve the best results. Sitting under a hooded dry or diffusing your curls will allow your curls to dry faster, prevent frizz, less shrinkage, and your style will last longer. Heat drying your curls is an ultimate game changer. Avoid air drying if you want the best salon finish results.
Be patient and consistent with your curls
To my lazy curl gemz, mastering a bomb wash and go can be a process depending on how much hair you have. However once you grab the right products and master the styling technique your curls will be on and popping.
